Sometimes it is worth paying a pro
If a softener loop is already roughed in, the job is short. Plenty of people do it themselves.
Pay someone when there is no loop, when the drain is a long run, or when the pipe is old. Those are the jobs where a mistake shows up as a wet ceiling a month later.
Check the warranty terms too. Some makers only cover the unit when a licensed plumber fits it.
Ask these five questions before you book
- Is the quote fixed, or does it change if you find something behind the wall?
- Does the price include the drain line and a bypass valve?
- Who pulls the permit if my town needs one?
- Are you licensed and insured for plumbing work in this state?
- What happens if it leaks a week later, and who pays for that?
